Looking for a mystery that has more twists and turns than a roller coaster? Want to visit a small town filled with people who value dog ownership? Well, John Sandford comes through with Deadline, a mystery within a mystery within a… well, you get the idea.
Department of Criminal Apprehension agent, Virgil Flowers receives a call from his college buddy, Johnson Johnson, who is concerned with dognappings in the small town of Trippton, Minnesota, situated on the Mississippi River. Virgil is between assignments and has a hard time turning Johnson down, so he steps into the middle of murder, mayhem and a whole lot of other troubles in this isolated area. The good guys are likable, the bad guys are easy to spot, but slippery to catch, and Virgil Flowers is “dogged” in his determination to put the right people behind bars.
Sandford’s book will hold your attention, while the many twists and turns will keep you guessing until almost the end. This thriller should get four paws up for a fun read! The “F-bomb” is pretty prevalent in the dialogue, but as a young friend once told his mother, “It was used correctly as an adjective.”
