Over the years there have been a lot of companies who were smart enough to hire adorable animals to star in their commercials, but which ones are the very best? Here’s the Bark Meow top eight:
1. “Puppy Love” Budweiser
Obviously this commercial is going to be heartwrenching because the song “Let Her Go” starts playing immediately, and we are dealing with a cute golden puppy who cannot stop defeating obstacles to visit his Clydesdale best friend. When his lady takes him away from the ranch, his horse bestie and the other horse pals all chase the car down and block it from getting away. They are reunited, you guys. This commercial does not make me want a beer, but it does make me want to hold someone.
2. “Skittles Touch” Skittles
This could potentially be my favorite pet commercial ever. The narrator insists the viewer puts his/her finger on the screen where the Skittle is. When your finger is in place, a kitten comes up and licks the screen right where your finger is. Brilliant, and so cute.
Of course, it IS a skittles commercial so it gets weird when a man DRESSED as a cat comes up and licks the same spot. Creepy. But still kinda cute.
3. “What’s the Fuss About?” Subaru
The premise is simple enough–five dogs of various breeds are driving around in a nice looking blue Subaru. The kicker is that the dogs are driving the car. Everything is running smoothly until they start barking–all of them–quite aggressively. The camera pans out to the road and we see a postal car driving by. Oh, dogs and the mailman. An age old rivalry. Subaru has quite a few “dog tested” commercials, but this one stands out as my favorite.
4. “The Bark Side” Volkswagen
Eleven dogs barking, seemingly mindlessly until we realize they are barking in the tune of the Star Wars theme. And not only THAT, but the adorable little canines are dressed as the characters. Look at that Ewok! Well done, VW.
5. “Sand Box” The Shelter Pet
Very clever take on a cat observing their human. A sassy, orange cat watches his human child play outside in a sand box, expressing his frustration at how humans insist on playing in their litter. I am also just a huge sucker for animal narration.
6. “Mr. Quiggly” Skechers
A dog race, but instead of just Greyhounds…we have the cutest freakin’ French Bulldog ever to run around a track. Okay, maybe I am biased because I love Frenchies, but when he stops before the finish line and moonwalks? Cutest.
7. “Cats With Thumbs” Cravendale
In again a creepy, but kind of cute advertisement, we are asked the question “why do cats stare while we’re pouring milk?” The point eventually leading to cats desiring opposable thumbs. It is a strange sight to see, cats with thumbs, but it is also hilarious. The poor man who is just trying to eat his cereal is eventually threatened by a gang of cats with thumbs. I guess Cravendale milk is magic.
8. “Doberhuahua” Audi
In this strange, but hilarious commercial, Audi envisions what a cross between a chihuahua and a doberman would look like, ultimately relating it to their “luxury without compromise” slogan. The commercial is awesome though as we are taken through a world where ladies carry doberhuahuas in their purses, even though they bite passerby. Besides that, Sarah Maclachlan shows up with her guitar, filming a commercial about saving “doberhuahuas” until she gets frustrated with the puppy eating her guitar. Classic.
